Fostering and Adoption Training Packages
Therapy in Praxis offers training for those parenting or caring for a child form a background of neglect, abuse or violence, loss and separation.
This kind of a start can have a devastating impact on the child's psycho-social and emotional resilience.
The child needs to develop healthy attachments to adults who can be trusted. But it is important to understand that a child's actual physical and physiological development can be undermined by trauma as well.
The effects of trauma on what clinicians call the child's sensory integration – [that is, the process through which the brain takes in, interprets and uses information from the body and the environment, and controls and organises the body for the daily activities of living and learning] – can be extremely damaging.
The damage can show up as a lack of co-ordination, clumsiness, motor control, balance and other difficulties. As carers you are best placed to know if your child has these kinds of difficulties. If these sensory difficulties are not resolved they can disrupt our best efforts to help the child to resolve their attachment difficulties.
